Who are HNR?
HNR is a market-leading software solutions provider dedicated to enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of data- and compute-intensive businesses. They aim to reduce technology’s carbon footprint in the digital supply chain for Media, Telecom, and Gaming. Their flagship platform, HNR to ZERO, leverages analytics and workflow observability to optimise operational data, helping organisations reduce their carbon footprint and costs. The platform aids in understanding and managing emissions and automates compliance with standards like CSRD and GHG Protocol. It also targets emission hotspots, aiming to cut digital supply chain costs by at least 30%.
The Challenge
HNR’s challenge lay in bringing HNR to Zero to launch on time and on budget. The product combines cloud costs and usage data with carbon footprint methodology models, allowing effective carbon accounting and forensic analysis of processes to identify improvement areas. The solution, based on AWS Serverless components, streamlines management and deployment using Infrastructure as Code.

HNR brought in Merapar as a partner to refine HNR to Zero into a market-ready Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and demonstrate its industry leading functionality, field-ready resilience as well as its operational flexibility and onboarding capabilities.

The Solution
Merapar worked closely with HNR’s engineering group and key executive stakeholders. Our product acceleration consulting team quickly adapted to the serverless codebase and AWS CDK infrastructure, leveraging Merapar’s deep AWS expertise. With the increased design and engineering resources launch deadlines lost their terror and new ideas were introduced into the product. We added new data models and Lambda APIs for better console interaction. We also expanded DynamoDB datastores for service decoupling, implemented cross-account IAM access, and used SQS for efficient data management. These enhancements strengthened HNR to Zero for its initial delivery. We then added AWS S3 storage data backup exports and automated Amazon CloudWatch dashboards. These steps made supporting new customers easier and marked a growth milestone for the product.
The Results
Merapar’s contributions significantly transformed HNR to Zero, surpassing the original MVP’s scope. This joint effort effectively turned the concept into a market-ready solution. The enhanced features increased the product’s appeal and efficiency. Consequently, HNR presented a more advanced product, making its launch a considerable success. This success led to new customer engagements for HNR, showcasing the highly productive partnership approach between HNR and Merapar.
